Answers to the questions people actually ask about modular HDPE floating pontoon cubes. Cubes are 500 × 500 × 400 mm, grey, $99 each. Call Brenden on 0402 426 847 if your layout is odd.

How much weight will a cube hold?

A standard 500 × 500 × 400 mm Aussie Cube is rated around 350 kg per square metre of assembled deck. Four cubes make 1 m². Use the build a dock calculator so the platform is sized for people, a jet ski, or a small boat, not just the cubes.

How many cubes do I need?

Work in 0.5 m steps. Four cubes = 1 m². A 2 × 2 m swim platform is 16 cubes (the 16-cube kit). A 4 × 2 m pontoon is 32 cubes (the 32-cube kit). Add mushroom pins for every joint, plus edge bolts if you want a finished perimeter.

How much does a cube cost?

The standard grey cube is $99 AUD. Pins, doubles, triangles, pile cubes, and kits are on the product pages. First-order email signups can use code DOCK10 for 10% off.

Can I build my own pontoon?

Yes. Sketch length and width, then order a kit (pins included) or loose cubes — call Brenden for pin packs if you are building DIY from cubes alone. Assemble on the bank or in the water. No welds, no crew, no crane for a typical backyard jetty or swim platform.

Do I need tools?

No. Cubes lock with mushroom centre pins through the corner lugs. On bigger layouts, ask us about assembly tips when you order pin packs. Edge bolt sets are optional trim, not required to float.

How do the cubes connect?

Each cube has corner lugs. A mushroom centre pin drops through the stacked lugs of neighbouring cubes and locks the deck. Leave a free edge if you plan to grow the pontoon later.

Can I mix Aussie Dock with Candock or another brand?

No. Pins and lugs are specific to this system. Another brand’s cubes will not lock and the deck will not be safe. Stay in one pin family.

Is this a timber or aluminium pontoon?

Neither. Aussie Cubes are UV-stabilised HDPE flotation modules. No paint, no rust, no annual sealing.

Can I add on later?

Yes. That is the point of a modular cube dock. Swim platform this year, longer jetty or a jet ski finger next summer. Leave a free edge and pin on more cubes.

Are they OK in salt water?

Yes. HDPE does not rust or rot. Fine in salt water, brackish estuaries, lakes, and rivers. Rinse sand and mud off the deck when you can.

Will they work on a lake or river?

Yes. Same cubes. Watch water level change, current, and how you tie off to the bank or piles. Pile cubes and bollards are in Accessories.

How wide should a walkway be?

We recommend at least 1.5 m (three cubes) wide for a walkway so it does not feel twitchy underfoot. A 2 m (four cube) deck is more comfortable with eskies, kids, and fishing gear.

Can I make a jet ski drive-on dock?

Yes. Cube pontoons are commonly built as a square swim platform with a drive-on finger. Call Brenden on 0402 426 847 with the ski length and dry weight and we will point you at a cube count. The calculator is a starting point, not a hull-by-hull drive-on spec.

What size swim platform should I get?

2 × 2 m (16 cubes) is the usual family jump-off. Go 3 × 2 m or add a finger if you want lounges or a ladder. See the 16-cube kit.

Are they slippery when wet?

The top is a textured HDPE deck, not polished timber. Still wet plastic. We sell a 4-step stainless ladder for getting back on, and D-fender if you tie boats alongside.

Is it safe for kids?

Treat it like any pontoon: supervise, no running, and keep the walkway wide enough. A 2 × 2 m platform with a ladder is the usual family setup. We do not sell life jackets.

Will a cube fill with water or sink?

Each cube is a sealed HDPE module. A punctured cube can lose buoyancy. Do not drag cubes on concrete or rock. The warranty does not cover puncture or abrasion from dragging.

What maintenance do they need?

Almost none. No paint, no anti-fouling on the cubes themselves. Rinse salt and mud, check pins once a season, keep the deck off the bottom so rocks cannot pierce a cube.

Can I leave the pontoon in the water all year?

Yes in typical Australian conditions. The 5-year UV warranty covers the HDPE module in normal marine use. Ice movement is not covered. If the waterway freezes hard, take advice locally.

How do I attach it to the shore?

Depends on the bank. Options include a gangway onto the cubes, pile cubes over posts, and bollards or cleats for lines. We do not pour footings. Call with photos of the bank.

Do I need a council permit?

Often yes on public waterways, jetties, and some private foreshores. Rules differ by council and state. Check before you install. We supply the cubes; we do not issue permits.

Do you deliver outside Sydney?

Yes. Free Standard delivery across Sydney Metro applies only on orders of 16 cubes or more (e.g. Swim Platform Kit / Pontoon Kit). Shipping calculated at checkout (Standard & Express). Smaller orders pay shipping — use the shipping calculator for estimates. Outside Sydney, Standard and Express averages are shown in the calculator; shipping is calculated at checkout. Express is never free. Cubes ship stacked; regional and interstate need extra lead time.

Is shipping free on one or two cubes?

No. Free Standard Sydney Metro starts at 16 cubes. One or two cubes (and any smaller order) use Standard and Express rates calculated at checkout.

What's the warranty?

5-year UV warranty on the HDPE cube in normal Australian marine use. It does not cover dragging on concrete, puncture, or incorrect assembly. Keep the invoice. Details on the warranty page.

Kit or loose cubes?

Kits bundle a set layout plus locking pins and hardware. Buy loose cubes if you want a custom shape — pin packs are not sold solo online right now, so contact us or call Brenden for DIY pin packs. Doubles (1000 × 500) cover the same area with fewer joints.

Can I stand on one cube?

One cube is a float, not a deck. You need a connected platform. Three cubes wide is the minimum we recommend for walking.

What about waves and boat wash?

Cube decks flex and sit on the water. They are built for protected water: rivers, lakes, canals, and sheltered bays. Open ocean swell is a different job. Tell us the site if you are unsure.

Do the cubes fade in the sun?

They are UV-stabilised grey HDPE with a 5-year UV warranty. All plastics weather. Grey is chosen because it hides dirt and takes Australian sun better than pale colours.

Damaged, wrong, or extra cubes?

Call Brenden on 0402 426 847 with the order number before you assemble. Do not modify a cube and then claim warranty.
